· Revd Sabine Baring-Gould Centenary: 2024 marks the centenary of the death of the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould (28 January 1834-2 January 1924), squire and parson of Lewtrenchard in West Devon. He was an early and prolific collector and recorder of folk tunes and songs from the West Country, including many in South Brent). Songs included ‘Widecombe Fair’ and ‘The Cuckoo’; he also wrote and translated many hymns and carols including ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ and ‘Now the Day is Over’. Listen and maybe even join in singing some of the songs he collected from 1888-1903 and learn about the 'Song Men’ he collected them from.
