MED Theatre presents Stapledon at 7.30pm in St Andrews Church, Ashburton. A community play for Ashburton, based on the life of Walter Stapledon, Bishop of Exeter and High Treasurer of England under Edward II. As a great famine sweeps across the land, should Stapledon prioritise his high position beside the King, or the lives of his Devon countrymen and women? The play charts Stapledon’s life – from his humble origins coming in a North Devon farming family, through his meteoric rise in the church and politics to become the King’s treasurer and most trusted diplomat to his murder by a London mob in 1326. Tickets at £8 / £5 children under 16, available online. See www.medtheatre.co.uk/ or www.dartmoorresource.org.uk.
