Ashburton World Event Day from 11am – 4pm Ashburton Festival Association, which organised the first Tinners Moon Festival in 2010 has concocted a whole day of entertainment with a global theme. There'll be

music and dance from around the world, some amazing workshops– all FREE! and food and drink to make a day of it.

Free Performances – Outside in the courtyard, unless wet, in which case in the main Hall.

 

11am: Taiko Drumming – Japanese Drums

 

11.45am: Global Harmony – From Totnes: World Music and songs raising money for Water Aid

 

12.15pm: Skylark – From South Brent: Music from the British Isles, Ireland, America and Sweden

 

1.30pm: Bengali Singers (coming down from Bristol)

 

3pm: Ashburton Mardi Gras Band, created in February, is reassembling. If you'd like to join on samba drums/percussion, or any wind/brass instrument, or pretty much anything that can be played on the move; and if you can read simple tunes, or pick them up quickly by ear, email This email address is being protected from spambots. Free Workshops and activities – All happening inside the Arts Centre.

 

‘Four Families’: A documentary about mixed race families in rural areas will be screened regularly throughout the day.

 

12.15pm – 1.15pm: Flamenco Dancing

 

Craft workshops with West Devon Arts: These workshops are free and are fabulous opportunity to produce some beautiful crafts. 

 

11am – 1pm: Family workshop - Willow and tissue hangings:

 

1.30pm – 4pm: Adult Workshop – Wire and Medroc Figures:

 

Various times throughout the day: Adrinka Shields: create shields out of willow, calico and earth paints that tell a story using these West African symbols.

 

11am – 4pm: Ashburton Refugee Network Listening Tent
