Charity Sky Dive – South Brent residents Rosemary Bishop and Liz Pearson will drop to earth for three miles (from a perfectly serviceable plane!) in aid of Veterans with Dogs, the Newton Abbot based charity which aims to help former British Armed Forces personnel with mental health difficulties arising from past experiences by encouraging active engagement with dogs, promoting a therapeutic bond to help increase independence, self-esteem and quality of life. Veterans with Dogs trains assistance dogs to help with practical tasks to help improve quality of life and increase independence, including:
Medication reminders
Getting someone up and out of bed
Sensory stimulation for the ‘here-and-now’
Retrieving items such as medication or mobile phone
Switching lights on
Grounding a person during panic attacks
Reducing anxiety through ‘touch’ tasks
Leading someone to a safe place
Helping people to reduce hypervigilance through focus-work
The use of ‘safe’ commands
Donating is easy: click on: www.veteranswithdogs.org.uk or FFI contact Rosemary on 01364 73984.
