South Brent Allotments (as of May 23)

Known as VRAA (Vicarage Road Allotment Association), the Allotment field is behind the Village Hall and is accessed from the road opposite the Manor House on Vicarage Road.

The field was bought by the Parish Council in 2005 after a campaign that started some ten years earlier. More recently, the VRAA would like to acknowledge: the grant from the Energy Group; the part-funding by the allotment members; the assistance of our allotment members who are solar specialists for their design, build and installation skills; and a South Brent parishioner in their help with obtaining planning permission for our solar energy project.

The field is divided into approximately 50 plots and there are currently fifty members of the Society. VRAA is self-financing and self-managed. Because of this, a management committee is elected every year. It oversees the VRAA programme of work and basic maintenance tasks.

There is water on the site, provided by a bore hole and extracted via a pump powered by the new solar energy system.

There is always a waiting list for a plot and the waiting time is about two years. The 2023 annual fees are £25 for a half plot and £35 for a full plot.

These fees include £15 membership, insurance and rental costs.
