The Bike Bank:

A 'Bike Bank' was established by Sustainable South Brent in 2015 at the Old School Community Centre as a community resource offering a free lease of a bike for up to 7 days and promoting sustainable transport in and around South Brent. The bikes are ideal for new riders as they are easy to use and well suited to Devon being light and with plenty of gears for those hills. Each lease includes helmet, gloves and lights to get you on the road as well as a support pack full of advice, tips for new cyclists, links to cycling organisations in the area and maps. The Bike Bank is currently only open to adults of 18 and over..

To borrow a bike you must register on the scheme. To register:

·      Complete the registration on line via the 'Bike Bank' link on the SSB website www.sustainablesouthbrent.org.uk/

·      Or download and complete a registration form from the website and email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

·      Or complete a paper registration form from the envelope on the SSB notice board in the lobby of the Old School Community Centre and place it in the envelope marked 'Completed registration forms'

Once you have registered, further instructions will be emailed to you and you will be able to choose and book out a bike from the green, secure cycle store at the Old School Community Centre.

'Saddle up in South Brent': Sustrans led Cycle rides

A series of bike rides starting in (or with a joining point in) South Brent, arranged and led by Sustrans volunteers in partnership with Sustainable South Brent was established in 2016 under the Devon Active Villages programme.

During 2017, there will be another series of these small group bike rides with a comprehensive range of difficulty, from rides for less experienced cyclists including families with children, to challenges for more experienced riders (anyone with an electric bike would also be welcome). The SSB Bike Bank cycles will be available for free loan, on a first come basis (see SSB link).

The dates for the new series of rides will be announced soon

These rides are intended to show people what routes are accessible from the village and generate further interest in cycling generally, broadening the overall aims of the bike project in keeping with the new South Brent Parish Plan to include encouragement of healthy lifestyles; reduce vehicular congestion, increase confidence on roads by bike users; promote national cycle routes in the vicinity and provide social opportunities and cycle skills development.
